Conductor & Musical Director: Derek Trewin B.Ed, LTCL
Derek was trained as a music teacher at the University of London (Goldsmiths). He is also a Licentiate of Trinity College London and plays keyboard and brass instruments. He has extensive teaching experience across a wide age range.
Derek has also enjoyed many years of musical directorship with local music societies. He retired from Headship some years ago, and since October 2000 he has been the Musical Director of the Choir, and of its continuing success.
Deputy Musical Director: Steve Dyrda
An outstanding lifelong accordian player with competition wins to his credit, Steve joined the Choir in 1994, singing first tenor. He soon became Deputy Musical Director. After a brief move away from the area he returned to the Choir and was re-appointed Deputy Musical Director.
Accompanist: Michael James BA (Hons) PGTC
Michael gained a scholarship to the junior department of The Royal College of Music aged 9. He graduated from the University of East Anglia with further studies at Goldsmiths London. Michael is now Head of Music at Bideford College. Appointed as Accompanist in 2006.
Deputy Accompanist: Monica Jolly GRCM, ARCM
A graduate of the Royal College of Music, Monica has trained in singing, piano and cello. She has taught in a range of schools as well as giving private tuition. Widely experienced as an accompanist for male and mixed choirs and choral societies. Appointed in 2007.
Guest Organist: Mark James BA (Hons) Dip ABRSM
Mark joined the Choir at an early age and sang in the baritone section. Already an organ student he left to go to University where he has completed his degree and furthered his training as an organist. Mark has been appointed Organ Scholar Emeritus at Exeter University and plays guest spots for the Choir from time to time.
