" A Very Happy New Year to all Visitors!"

'2011NEWS SUMMARY'

  • July is always the month of the Annual General Meeting of the Choir and of the Registered Charity.
  • Several changes  of officers took place and the list of the new Committee and of the Trustees of the Registered Charity is shown on the page entitled OFFICERS.
  • You will see that Ken Beevers was re-elected to serve as Chairman of the Charity and of  the Choir.   2010/11 will be Ken's eleventh year in the position of Choir Chairman.  Ken is the third longest serving Chairman in the Choir's history which started in 1919.
  • During 2010 a full programme of performances was undertaken as usual.  (see the page entitled ENGAGEMENTS for details).  As we near the end of 2011 the Choir can look back on another full year of events that included the Choir's participation in the Cork International Festival of Choirs.    It is becoming increasingly important to book early if you wish to match the Choir's availability with an event date you have in mind.  We can report that we cannot accept any further bookings for 2012 but welcome requests for dates in 2013.
  • The Choir is planning a short concert tour to Brittany in France in May 2012 and is researching a proposed trip to Poland in 2013.

The Choir performed two concerts on the 24th July.  Unusual to have two concerts on one day but well justified when you read on.

The first concert was performed in Buckfast Abbey in South Devon for The Knights of Columba (a catholic charitable organisation). It was the choir's second performance at the Abbey where it performed in 2009 as part of its 90th Anniversary programme.(Founded Autumn 1919)

The second concert on the 24 July was performed in Exeter Cathedral  Devon.  This time a first for the Choir.  Although well known in the period 1930's to 1940's as a regular broadcaster for the BBC, this was the Choir's first concert in a Cathedral.

Both concerts were performed with guests, the Barnstaple Ladies Choir and soloists, Mark James Organ and Zoe Cartlidge Oboe.  The Concerts were well attended and considered a great success by audiences and performers alike.

The Choir's AGM was held on 25 July 2011. See OFFICERS page for the details of the 2011/12  Officers.
